Molly & Paul -5.27.16

So truth be told, there are two weddings that I always look forward to photographing. Offbeat Weddings (because frankly they’re awesome and  unique every time) and small intimate weddings.  Now… I’m not saying I don’t enjoy every wedding I photograph, but there is something wonderful about having less then 25 people at a wedding… and that’s including the bridal party!  There just tend to be more little moments throughout the day, less timeline rushing drama and a loving bond is always evident in everyone that’s attending.

Molly and Paul’s wedding was just that!  I mean, we fit all the guests in one photo and you can see everyone!  That’s definitely not something you get at every wedding.  Check out all these lovelies in attendance, seriously, aren’t they fantastic!

I’ll tell you though…  this was probably the hottest wedding I’ve shot to date.  I mean it was a good 98 degrees.. plus, like a gazillion percent humidity. This photog had to go home and wring out her clothes afterwards not to mention, chug like 10 gallons of water.  It was nutty! Everyone was a trooper though, I mean,  look at all those smiles!

Molly and Paul were perfect too!  They champed through the heat and absorbed some sunshine for their photos. These two both have a love of the outdoors, hence the beautiful estates of Allenberry Resort Inn and outdoor ceremony, small ring box made to look like a tree stump (with their initials carved into it), and a beautiful flower covered arbor. Paul also has a love of fishing (note Yellow Breeches Creek in the background).  He makes a lot of his own flies too.  They even incorporated a fly into his boutonniere. How cool is that?!

Their ceremony was beautiful from beginning to end, starting with the groom’s son leading both mom’s down the aisle followed by his daughter with a huge bouquet of flowers!  The bride’s father gave her away under that stunning arbor, much to the smile of her groom!   The vows went swimmingly and everyone had a chuckle when the ring bearer struck a pose handing off the rings. The first kiss was had and the couple, all smiles, walked down the aisle for the first time as husband and wife.  A tiny intimate reception followed with unique candy apple favors, a lovely three-tiered cake (the kids helped pick out the flavors!), ‘butterfly kisses’ and lots of laughs! What a wonderful day it was for these two!  I was so honored to be a part of it, so without further ado, I give you Molly and Paul’s wedding:

James & Ashley – 10.31.15

Talk about a wedding for the offbeat books!  Halloween wedding + gas masks + zombie cake and Beetlejuice ring hand.. it had it all!  For a themed wedding this was definitely one of the more rad weddings I’ve done.  James and Ashley LOVE Halloween and what a better way to share your big day then theming it around something you’re both passionate about??

Ashley rocked her little white dress, fringed in black lace with a orange accent while James looked sharp in his suit.  The bridal parties wore a purple and black combo with highlights of orange throughout. This was one of those weddings that was just a blast to photograph.  When James pulled out his gas mask groom’s gift I can honestly say this was, not only a first for me, but one of the most unique and awesome wedding gifts ever!  Each mask came in a military type bag, personalized with the groomsman’s names on them.  Talk about a crazy cool gift right??

There were so many priceless moments too.  When I was positioning James for the couple’s first look… seeing how nervous he was until he saw his stunning bride in her dress and all his nerves melted away, to the look on the officiant and crowds faces when the groom’s brother pulled out the box containing the wedding rings… and a zombie hand lol!  James recited some Beetlejuice references much to the amusement of all the guests.  One of my favorite shots is the reaction of everyone to the zombie hand.  The bride hand-painted the cake toppers (for their spiderweb Halloween cake) to look like a zombie couple with their dog and what an amazing job she did!  The groom even rocked some pumpkin cufflinks for the occasion.  Not to mention, the party ALL donning masks for some post-ceremony shots.  This was only highlighted by the very “Shining-esque” Globe Inn Hotel, with old photographs, decor and dim lighting.

The warm fall colors played off not only the color themes but the warmth the couple and their close friends and family have for each other.  Every time I turned around someone else was laughing and joking with the couple.  So here’s to many more Halloween’s together you two!  May your treats be better than you tricks 🙂 I couldn’t have asked for a more fun bride and groom to photograph!  Enjoy!

Cari & Mark – 10.24.15

Cari and Mark, talk about a relationship that’s been in the works for a while. Originally high school sweethearts, fast-foreword to now and voila!  A match that’s been smoldering for a while and it finally caught fire.  Not to mention their son, Gavin who now is just as tall as his parents (who are aren’t shorties by any means)!  These two could not have picked a more perfect day to tie the knot.  All the leaves were still on the trees but had changed to fantastic shades of orange, reds and yellows.  It was sunny but cloudy, a light breeze and an all around beautiful day for a wedding.

Surrounded by friends and family with one of the BIGGEST parties I have ever photographed (19 in total!) and dressed out in various shades of blue, suspenders and white flowers.  This was a total family affair, from Cari’s brother being her wedding planner to her friends and family helping to provide desserts, chairs & tables and even bean bag games!  Their first look, when Mark turned around, saw Cari and couldn’t stop smiling, to the meaningful speeches (four in total from their siblings), to the touching parent dances.. these two were just enveloped by love!
There was plenty of humor and laughs at their wedding too.  Gavin being asked to speak by all his uncle’s while giving their speeches and rejecting them all (much to the hoots and hollers from the crowd), to Cari opting out of shoes half way through their first photos.  The bride mixing up her drink with her brother’s as he was trying to toast the couple (whoops lol), to the bride’s sister saying they were finally a real family (to which Gavin responded… ‘What were we before?!’).
Full disclosure, I had my first big wedding screw up ever and showed up at the wrong ‘mansion’ location (only about 5 miles aways, whew), to a wedding where there happened to be a bride named Cari too (what are the freaking chances!).  So after talking to the family and setting up my lights.. I went to go find Cari to only be met by a stranger.  Seriously.. I have never been so embarrassed and while frantically trying to call the bride, groom and really anyone in their party I had the numbers for, I realized there was no cell phone reception up in the mountains.  Thankfully, I was only a few minutes away so everything still ran smoothly but Cari and Mark were calm as cucumbers and had a good chuckle about my other ‘Cari bride’ encounter.
Seriously though, as weddings go, this one was such a blast to photograph.  Everyone was so warm and welcoming and I found myself laughing throughout the whole day.  To be part of Cari and Mark’s union was truly awesome and it is weddings like this that make my job worth it!  So without further ado, Cari and Mark’s wedding!
