Amy & Daniel – 9.19.15

Amy and Daniel, talk about romance meets Southern Charm!  I honestly couldn’t even tell you which one was more excited to get married!  There was a point when I was photographing the groom with his groomsman prior to the ceremony and one of them said something to the point of, “Are you ready to do this?”  Daniel responded with, “I’ve never been more ready for anything.”  That was how the whole night was.

These two were not only so ready to get married but so clearly head over heels for one another.  Seeing the look on Daniel’s face when Amy began her walk down the aisle was a little magical. They both couldn’t stop smiling at each other throughout the whole ceremony. Looking through the lens at these two all day still puts a grin on my face.  Their family and friends all rallied for some fantastic formal portraits not to mention the awesome dance skills many of the guests possessed.  Seriously though, not joking about the dancing.  Half of them could have been professionals the way their guests rocked the dance floor!  It was a blast to watch.  I even wanted to join in!
On a side note, this photog had actually known Amy since middle school.  We rode on the same bus for years so it was delightful to see this women I’d known for quite a few years grow up, be so entirely happy and look absolutely stunning her wedding day.
So many fun tiny details too at this wedding.  The bridesmaids classy black dresses were some of my favorite I’ve seen to date!  The couple had a beautiful LOVE ice sculpture, ‘I Do’ stickers on the bottom of the bride’s shoes, their hashtag ‪#‎FallfortheKossiks‬, the lovely fall colored bouquets and boutonnieres, and roses to gift each other with during the ceremony.   Their laughter and love throughout the whole night made it more fun.  They were both glowing and shared hugs, smiles and dances with just about everyone attending.  All in all one of most fun weddings I’ve ever had the pleasure to photograph!  So congrats again Amy and Daniel!  Enjoy all the photos!

Puja & Michael – 9.12.15

Puja and Michael, this was one of those couples that I think I was just as excited to photograph their wedding as they were to get married!  I got an email saying they wanted to do there pre-wedding shots at a comic book store followed by a reception and ceremony at an art gallery.  Like holy cow, talk about an awesome opportunity!  Comic book store, SIGN ME UP!

These two were just so fantastically amazing to work with and photograph.  From the moment we had our first video conference to meet each other I knew this was just going to be a blast to photograph.  Puja and Michael both emit this happy nerdtastic vibe that got everyone excited (including this photographer!) to spend the day with them, celebrating their marriage.
Even meeting and getting to know each other was kind of a happenstance #dorklove story made by the cosmos.  While attending Drexel (two completely different majors mind you, Engineering and English) they happened to cross paths in their final semester while taking a Philosophy in Science Fiction course. They bonded over their love of science fiction and as Puja put it, “the British musician Imogen Heap for some odd reason.”  They said they both knew that they were each other’s plus one after spending a night meeting up for tea and closing it (and multiple other places down).  They kept moving from location to location, chatting about life and common interests.  It still took them like another few weeks to be forced to recognize by common friends that they had feelings for each other and were, in fact, dating though.
Their whole reception was completely them too.  This is always great for a photographer who shoots so many weddings.  I got to see something new and unique that was totally Puja and Michael.  Their love of art, books and literature showed throughout the night.  The centerpieces were made of antique and used books that they had spent months finding at various public library sales. After the second library they had more than enough books but they were so excited about finding new rare books that they discovered their new love of ‘book treasure hunting.’  Each place setting also featured library book checkout cards featuring details regarding the 2nd part of their weddings celebrations. Their cake featured their ‘love formula’ and they picked food from their favorite restaurants to cater.
Throughout the whole experience this couple was just so lovely to work with.  Every time I got off the phone or sent an email I had a smile of my face.  All the unique ideas and love these two had for what they were doing, made my job so much more fun and enjoyable.  It was such a honor to get to photograph something so unique, capturing the love that Puja and Michael’s family and friends have for them, and the love they have for each other.  So enjoy the photos below because seriously… who wouldn’t enjoy wedding shots in a comic book store!

Beth & David – 4.18.15

Beth and David, seriously one of the most unique and fun weddings I have photographed to date!  I mean, what a venue! The National Aviary in Pittsburgh is truly a hidden gem. How many photographers can say they’ve photographed weddings guests that included penguins, parrots and owls!  The best thing about this wedding was that it was very distinctly Beth and Davids. They swerved from your traditional and did something so true to them. Let me explain… they had met at a board gamy party that was hosted by a mutual friend. Their love of games and meeting one another was placed throughout the wedding.  They had a puzzle hunt where guests had to collect clues, board game center pieces decked out in bridal gear, and instead of a first dance they chose to play the Broken Picture Telephone game (basically everyone started with a ring a blank cards, drew a picture or a phrase, passed it to the guest next to them who had to either draw a phrase or figure out what the picture was and describe it).  The end results were hysterical!  Beth and David became ‘guest players’ at each table and injected their drawings or phrases in everyone’s cards.

One of the most unique things about the whole wedding day was their ceremony which took place in the Aviary’s Flightzone Theater.  There’s a huge tree in the middle, a big screen behind them (which they set as a night sky scene), and rock plateaus throughout.  They decorated it with candlelit lanterns and big vase bouquets.  It was stunning, like something out of a movie. Imagine getting married outside on a starlit night and voila! Beth and David’s ceremony.  They gave each of their mother’s flowers and had their family members do some wonderful (and funny) readings.  Everyone had a chuckle when they exited the ceremony to Star Wars (not once, but twice!) only to be greeted by a penguin named Goldie outside the theater.

Guests mingled through bird exhibits, signed a ‘jenga guest book,’ sang to the bride and talked to handlers about the various birds wandering around.  There were so many fun moments too.  Beth and David opted to do a first look before the ceremony (yes!) and the look on David’s face when he turned to see his beautiful bride was awesome (look for it below, it’s fantastical!). He could barely keep his eyes off her.  One of my favorite photos, is them walking through one of the bird exhibits.  Beth is looking at the different birds surrounding them and David is looking at Beth.  Such a serene moment.  David had even set up a special message delivery (via their adorable niece) to Beth.  The photo series for that puts a smile on my face every time I look at it.

What a wonderful and one-of-a-kind wedding this was.  Guests had a blast playing games, laughing and smile all night.  I’m so excited to be able to share it with everyone!  Enjoy!
